What is your honest, most accurate opinion of Dustin Brown (as of right now). How many goals + points would you bet on him getting if he moved to another team - say a playoff team in the east

15-20 goals in him still, maybe the same in assist. I see him as a 35-40 point player now at his peak.

Not sure what is happening (and not sure where else to post this) but every time I am on the HB home page I am getting redirected to a spam site and I cannot navigate back.

Help! I hope nobody else is having this issue.

11 g 16 a is what you're looking at with Brown based on his last 3 years.

What would it take to move him? Better question: What would any playoff team in the East want with Brown?

On a line with Crosby, I'm sure he scores goals in the 20's again. Other than that, he's single digit, 30 point guy.

Am I the only one to notice that this blog didn't have a single image of stats or graphs? What gives, Jason?

Seriously, though, thanks for getting the interviews.

right.... but is he still effective?

Is there any drop in his leadership, skating, defensive impact??

The Sens have a difficult situation with MacArthur, and its a LONG shot, but moving MacArthur to LA, and say if DL retained 1M of Brown's contract, the Kings get almost 5m of cap space.

Basically, would Brown be worth it if was a free agent and signed 5 years @4.875m ?

I'm terrified every time that Jon Rosen mentions that he gets the feeling if everything played out equally the team would prefer Scuds/Green as the 3rd pair. Two over the top guys with the same skillset paired together would quickly spell disaster for us, and I hope that is just a misunderstanding. Given that delusion, I can not pretend to know who we will choose.

Given that, here's my take. At least one lefty, at least one righty, and one veteran will make it. Trotman did not play well vs. AZ, and considering that apparently Gilbert and Forbort did, I bet we end up with those two and one of Scuderi/Green. Is a one game judgement unfair? Without a doubt. But camp is so short this season it seems. Gravel didn't wow and consider he does not have to pass through waivers, sending him down is probably the safe bet. Forbort will get his (last) chance almost certainly. Giving Gilbert the contract we gave him tells me we'd prefer to keep him up. And Sutter wouldn't throw both of our boys to the wind so one of Scuderi/Green stays and one sucks down Gravel on the first pairing in Ontario.

Personally, mine would be Forbort, Gravel, and one of Gilbert/Trotman/Green, but that seems unlikely.

An emphatic no. His best role right now quite frankly is as a bottom 6 player, and truly a 4th liner. In FA I would not give him those years period, nor that AAV. 2 years 5 mil total would be a fair contract. He will still hit and skate hard, speed has not decreased, but his shot has and he tends to hold onto the puck and force his own shot rather than distribute, so pairing him with more skilled offensive players is a no-no. As a bottom 6 guy he can skate and hit and all his shots aren't taking the puck away from a more skilled skater.

Brown has a limited no movement clause (7 teams). So consider that. Also consider that he was stripped of his captaincy this summer. The Kings, therefore, can't really market Brown as a leader anymore although teams will remember his performance in the 11/12 playoffs and that might sway GM's that dig intangibles.

So anyone who'd trade for Brown could expect around ~25 points and 200 hits. What's a 31 year old putting up those numbers worth for another 6 years at 5.875 mm cap hit? I don't know of many comparables. Matt Martin is at a 2.5 mm cap hit and he's 27. Brown might get you a few more points, but he's awfully limited now in his offensive contributions and I don't have hope he'll improve on his numbers going towards his mid-30's.

Brown would not be worth whatever jersey he'd put on. He's a lost cause. He'll get 5 goals (1 EN) and 8 assists all year. I would be shocked if he racked up 25 points in any fashion, and even then I would cut him.

Given his shot rate and scoring chance rate I'd say that's overly negative.

He's probably good for 30-40 points still.

maybe, but given his shoot-high-and-wide rate and right-in-the-crest-rate, I'd say 10 goals is being extremely optimistic. I don't think he breaks 25 points. And it saddens me to think he'll be playing on the top line with Kopi.

TL;DR ---> Not that this is news to anyone, but we basically have 9 guys vying for 6 spots in the bottom six. With the 2 month loss of Gabo, you can count one of them to fill the top six spot (so drop that number to 8 or add the 3 listed under "outside shots" to the mix of battlers for the bottom 6)

In all probability they are going to throw Brown into the top 6 because he was so butt hurt about the C being ripped, so there is your top 6 at start of the regular season, bank it.

How the bottom 6 go ? your guess is as good as mine. my gut tells me that Lewis King and Nolan will be up at the start of the season and Shore will be given a shot at 3rd line C. Clifford will slot in somewhere and that leaves 1 slot for ????? and one pine rider. So maybe Latta and Setoguchi have a legit chance.

Bottom 6:

Mersche
Dowd
Shore
Andreof
Lewis
King
Brown
Nolan
Clifford

Top 6:

Kopitar
Gaborik*
Pearson
Carter
Toffoli
Purcell

Outside shots:

Setoguchi
Lessio
Latta

Defensive choices scare the crap out of me beyond Doughty, Muzz and Martinez.

I personally don"t see what everyone else does in McNaab but I guess he is serviceable and rounds out the top 4. Meh.

I don't think Greene and Scuds can hang in the NHL anymore, but DL and DS will most likely shoe horn them in even though they have guys that could be difference makers if they were to get 20 or so games of leniency at season start. that position is such a headache I won't even run it down.

Feel free to tell me how wrong I am - I'm all ears

30-40 is too optimistic. Last 3 years netted 27, 27, 28. He takes shots, but they don't net points.
Last season he shot 218 times, which was 2nd highest on team.
His shooting percentage was 5%, the only forwards with meaningful minute counts who were lower were Shore, Lewis(4.8%), Clifford(4.4%), and Nolan.
The next position above Brown in shooting percentage jumps all the way to 7.1%.
The season before, 4th on team in shots at 189 and shooting % of 5.8, only Clifford and Shore lower.
2013-2014, 4th in shots, 9th in terms of forwards at shooting %, albeit a more respectable 7.7%.
I think the stats prove that for him shots will not equal points (you can argue shooting % is low because of pure volume, but it proves even an abundance of shots from him is not exactly netting goals).
20-25 pts is probably a fair estimate.
And please don't ice him with strong forwards (like Kopi) because he will steal their shots!

Typical Anaheim fans trying to pick fights with kings fans at the end of the game. Sad. It's only preseason

On a positive note, Dowd looked really good along with setogutchi, Gilbert, ladue and gravel
